Hello Desk Settians!
My name is Davis Erin Anderson, your guest blogger for the month of August. I’ve been looking forward to writing for the Desk Set for a few months now, and I’m so pleased to have the opportunity. By way of introduction, here are a few things you might like to know about me:
I am a proud Cannoneer and have served on the board of SLA@Pratt for several semesters, most recently as President. I continue to serve in various capacities on the advisory board with SLA-NY, and am just now making a foray to the global level, starting with New York Ambassador to the First Five Years Council. (I can’t lie, I love how official that sounds!)
This summer, I had the distinct honor of walking the stage on a hectic Sunday at SLA’s Annual Conference and INFO-EXPO to accept the Rising Star award. In conjunction, I collaborated with Scott Brown in a short-ish dialogue on Engaging with Clients. This was part of the SLA/Fellow Round Table sponsored by J.J. Keller & Associates and was an incredible experience.
In my working life, from January 2007 through last April, I worked for a music publishing company, most recently in licensing and customer service. My work there perfectly bridged my life as a performing French horn player to librarian and sometime defender of copyright. I learned tons about intellectual property law, licensing, and the fun side of mergers and corporate acquisitions.
These days I’m on something of a librarian walk-about, seeking out new experiences in the field and hoping to determine a good path for the next stage of my career. While I’m at it, I like to plan things and collaborate with people on a variety of initiatives, and I’m beginning to think about maybe starting up a consultancy. A big maybe. We’ll see.
I look forward to popping back in onĀ deskset.org with my innermost thoughts and feelings about stuff related to information and libraries. Stay tuned!
