Hello again, Desk Setters. Last week I wrote about the unconference. For the next two weeks, I will be writing about the benefits of volunteering – for more than your karma.
I first met the ladies (Sarah & Maria) of the Desk Set two years ago at a Biblioball 2010 kickoff meeting. I was new to the city and wanted to meet some like minded people. After an exciting brainstorming session, I enlisted to be the Volunteer Coordinator for the Biblioball. I am so glad I did.
That fall I met a wonderful group of creative, motivated people that made Biblioball a success! We worked hard to put together a fun and exciting evening. Some of us even have the hot glue gun scars to prove it!
Because I’ve had so much fun, this will be my third year as the Volunteer Coordinator for the Biblioball – please be on the lookout for emails from me. Better yet, join our mailing list!
The Desk Set also has many other events throughout the year to meet new people or catch up with old friends. Their events served me well as a newcomer to the city and to the library world. There are a few other librarian meet ups around the city as well:
Que(e)ry
Librarian Libations – A monthly “networking” event
We Are Librarians
Urban Librarians Unite
So tell me, who are your favorite library groups to hang out with?
